Job Description

RW Manager (Deputy Director Flight Operations)

As our current Rotor Wing Manager (also the deputy Director Flight Operations) is moving on to other duties within the company, Lufttransport is now seeking a strong leader and highly experienced manager, with long and applicable rotor-wing operational background, to take his place.

The RW Manager reports to the Director of Flight Operations (DFO), and will take an active role within the Strategic Safety Assurance Group (SSAG), which is neewly formed through close cooperation between FW, RW and Training department. The RW manager will, on behalf of the Director Flight Operations, act as the Chief of Staff of the RW department of Lufttransport.

The RW Manager will have the following duties;

  1. Assist the DFO in effectively implementing the policies set out by the SSAG in terms of the RW environment of the company, and ensuring that they are applied and complied with through use of supervision;

  2. Assist the DFO in ensuring, through strategic management and leadership, that flight safety and compliance is established, maintained and enhanced throughout all the different RW operations within the company;

  3. Standardize the operations and the relevant documentation as much as practicable (by acting as an overall coordinator for the chief pilots of each operational type in the RW environment);

  4. Assist the DFO, through strategic planning and close cooperation with the crew planning office, to ensure that the rotor wing operations are manned correctly and efficiently

  5. Assist the DFO in ensuring that all RW pilots meet the qualification requirements set out by the Operations Manual, and subsequently ensuring that those comply with international and national law, as well as customer requirements;

  6. Act as an expert advisor to the training department (Director Training) in terms of enhancing the training quality and efficiency of the rotor wing Subpart N and O training;

  7. Act as the company RW expert and advisor toward authority, organisations and customers;

The RW manager shall posses the following background and qualifications;


  • Motivation;

  • Leadership skills;

  • Teamplayer attitude;

  • Several years experience from relevant management position in a commercial (helicopter) operation;

  • Thorough knowledge of JAR-OPS 3;


  • Relevant helicopter flying background;

Preferred (not required);

  • Currently be, or recently have been, a JAR-OPS 3 Postholder Flight Operations

  • AW139 type rating;


  • Average skills in speaking and writing in one of the Scandinavian languages;

The RW manager will work administrative out of Lufttransport main office premises located in Tromsö, at Langnes airport, normal office hours (Monday to Friday), but will be required and encouraged to travel to the RW bases located throughout Norway regularly. Preferrably the RW manager will engage in some operational flying duties, on one of the company helicopters.
