Assistant Chief Pilot VFR – Northwest Territories

Great Slave Helicopters is currently accepting applications from a highly motivated and energetic individual to join our dynamic team as the Assistant Chief Pilot, VFR.

The Assistant Chief Pilot will provide support and assistance to the Chief Pilot, VFR. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to,

the scheduling and management of air crews; development and implementation of effective training programs and procedures for pilots new to the company and for annual PPC training, including the administration of examinations, scheduling and administration of in-flight competency reviews; maintains and oversees a complement of certified training captains; participates in and oversees all pilot training programs; flight duties and other duties as assigned by the Chief Pilot

Key Accountabilities:

Assists the Chief Pilot to ensure Pilot’s develop and maintain the competency for particular aircraft;

Supports the Chief Pilot to ensure the optimum number of Pilot’s are on staff with the appropriate endorsements to meet operational needs which includes participation in the recruitment and retention of air crew;

Under the direction of the Chief Pilot manage the training program for the Pilots and ensures the continued functionality of the Pilot training program;

Responsible for ensuring all training flights are conducted in accordance with all statutory regulations and in compliance with, but not limited to, all relevant company manuals, including the company Operations Manual;

Enforce, recommend and assist in developing and recommending training processes and best practices;

Work closely with crew, operations team, maintenance and other regulatory agencies/departments on matters concerning flight operations;

Liaising with internal/external stakeholders to align key business priorities while ensuring safe flight operations;

As directed by the Chief Pilot, takes management responsibility for particular work assignments, including special and routine projects;

Other duties and projects assigned by the Chief Pilot.


Pilot with current / validated Transport Canada helicopter license;

Preference will be given to candidates with 3000 hours PIC time and endorsements on the Eurocopter AS350 series and Bell 206 and Bell 407;

Training background is essential for this role;

Confident leader who is self-motivated, innovative and results-orientated;

Excellent people management skills including the ability to hire, train, motivate, evaluate, correct, develop, and increase staff performance;

Well-developed interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills to resolve issues and to determine viable solutions;

Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement and initiative;

Above average communication, organizational and time-management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high energy and fast-paced environment;

Possess a high degree of professionalism and tact including handling sensitive and confidential information;

Preference will be given to candidates who are based in and/or willing to re-locate to Yellowknife, NT;

Proficient in computer software applications including Microsoft Word.
