Chief Pilot – Saskatchewan

Northern Shield Helicopters (NSH) is seeking a Chief Pilot to lead its team of pilots as the Company embarks on a period of intense growth and expansion.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader and dynamic individual possessing the interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others while building relationships within the Company, industry and among our clients.  As the Chief Pilot you will promote a positive attitude toward safety and safe-work practices in all flight crew and you will always place safety first.  You will elicit the best from our pilots and be experienced in technical training and flight instruction.  You must possess high-level problem solving skills and be an attention-to-detail type person particularly with respect to your administrative skills.

The Chief Pilot reports directly to the Director of Flight Operations and is responsible to:

•   Exercise administrative and supervisory oversight of NSH pilots;
•   Oversee and participate in the selection, interviewing, hiring and training of all NSH pilots;
•   Develop, implement and oversee all flight crew training programs and maintain the training records;
•   Maintain proficiency as a line captain;
•   Complete line proficiency checks on pilots and attain ACP status ASAP;
•   Complete all safety related duties and responsibilities of the Chief Pilot;
•   Participate in investigations and responses to all occurrence reports;
•   Administer and monitor the pilots’ schedule and performance;
•   Maintain the highest levels of pilot professionalism throughout the flight department;
•   Correctly apply your superior knowledge of all applicable Transport Canada regulations and guidelines and ensure NSH conformity;
•   Nurture and support flight crew compliance with all regulations and guidelines;
•   Issue directives and notices to the flight crews as required;
•   Monitor and process all flight crew reports;
•   Maintain a thorough understanding of all NSH operations;
•   Work closely with the Director of Flight Operations to develop pilot skills, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in response to customer needs and industry trends;
•   Liaise with Transport Canada and other regulatory agencies as necessary;
•   Promote and foster a safe and efficient operating environment;
•   Participate in NSH management processes including the promotion of corporate goals and initiatives with emphasis on safety, economic efficiency, best practice and customer service;
•   Participate in the Emergency Response plan as described in the NSH Emergency Response Manual; and
•   Other duties as assigned by the Director of Flight Operations.

NSH offers competitive wages commensurate with experience and expects the successful candidate to possess:

•   An Airline Transport Pilot Licence – Helicopter (ATPL-H); or
•   A Canadian Commercial Helicopter License (CHL);
•   A valid Category 1 Aviation Medical Certificate;
•   A valid Driver’s License;
•   A valid passport;
•   Numerous turbine helicopter endorsements and experience on each type;
•   Long-line experience (an asset);
•   Instrument rating;
•   Multi-engine time;
•   Night flying experience (an asset);
•   Instructional time (an asset);
•   NVG experience (an asset);
•   At least a Grade 12 education; and
•   The motivation to develop business opportunities.

NSH expects that you are capable of (although, not necessarily experienced in) teaching:

•   Human Factors in aviation;
•   Cockpit Resource Management;
•   Multi-Crew SOPs;
•   Long-lining;
•   Fire suppression operations;
•   Client relations;
•   Survival Training techniques; and
•   Flight in reduced visibility.
