Position Summary:  Plan, direct, and conduct helicopter ground, flight, functional, post-completion and FAL testing.  Support customer demonstrations, ferry, and delivery flights, as well as other flight operations events as required.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Flight Operations: 30%
    • Conduct flight activities as assigned to ensure compliance with FAA regulations with respect to pilot qualifications, currency, and proficiency.
    • Conduct operations in accordance with the AHI Flight Operations Manual (FOM) and associated documents.
    • Support flight operations requirements of other AHI entities, including AH, AHD, AHCA, and the AHI NHC/MAR facility in Texas. Such requirements may include: on and off-site aircraft deliveries; ferrying aircraaft; and aircraft demonstrations to AHI customers
  2. PC Test Support: 40%
    • Ensure FAL/PC testing procedures meet the requirements of the FAA and develop "best practice" standards that are harmonized with those of the AH Group.  Where required, develop standardized test sheets, statements of work, and ground/flight test procedures that are safe and efficient.
    • Conduct FAL and DCMA flight tests at the AHI production facility in MS in accordance with the associated local procedures and DCMA requirements.
    • Act as the Subject Matter Expert, advising and making recommendations to the Chief Test Pilot and/or Chief of Production Test regarding matters of production and post-maintenance flight test, production test equipment, flight and test safety, and regulations
    • Support the company to assist in the resolution of in-service trouble reports, and other technical issues.


  1. Aviation Safety: 30%
    • Emphasize and promote safety as foundation in the conduct of all aircraft test operations.
    • Support all AHI safety and SMS initiatives.
    • Support aviation training requirements, in conjunction with the Director of Aviation Safety.
    • Report and coordinate all significant safety events or observations with the Chief Test Pilot and/or Director of Aviation Safety as appropriate.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:  


  • Required: BS/BA Degree or equivalent.


  • Required: 5 years minimum experience in rotorcraft operations, with at least 5 years' experience in flight testing (production, completion, and/or post-maintenance).
  • Required: 3,000 hours total flight time, 2,000 of which must be in rotorcraft.
  • Required: 100 hours rotorcraft in the previous 12 calendar months.
  • Preferred: Previous test experience in H125 and H145 aircraft.
  • Preferred: Qualified in NVG operations.


  • Required: Graduate of formal test pilot program resulting in TB-2 rating OR for exceptional candidates, graduate of U.S. Army Maintenance Test Pilot program.
  • Required: FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (or better) and IFR rating.
  • Preferred: FAA Instructor Pilot Rating.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Required: Extensive knowledge of Airbus Helicopters aircraft, systems, operations, and FAA regulations.
  • Required: Extensive knowledge of U.S. Army maintenance test procedures and DCMA regulations.
  • Required: Demonstrated above average leadership and communication skills.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Required: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of a second language used in the AH Group (French, German, or Spanish).

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Required: Proficiency with basic office software (Microsoft Office).


Travel Required:

  • 20% Domestic and International.

  • Requires ability to solve complex problems involving multiple internal (AHI / AH Group) and external customers. Requires the ability make independent decisions which may require balancing potentially conflicting needs (e.g., customer demands, safety, and regulatory requirements).  Requires ability to corroborate with other key stakeholders to develop innovative solutions, often in real-time, to support AHI operational requirements.
