Captain Bell 412 – Antarctica, South Atlantic & Africa

Ultimate Heli is a South African-based young and vibrant helicopter company that has extensive operations throughout Africa and Antarctica. Pilots joining Ultimate Heli become part of a team characterised by a world class reputation for safety, efficiency and customer service.

The opportunity to join our team as a Bell 412EP Captain for a four year period is available.

We will be operating 2 x Bell 412EP helicopters in support of scientific research within Antarctica, on and around Marion Island and Gough Island, from April 2017 for 4 years. Mobilisation will be over the following months each year:

April to May – Marion Island (+/- 42 days)
September to October – Gough Island (+/- 36 days)
December to February – Antarctica (+/- 80 days)

Further flying in an around Africa will also take place when not on the above deployment.

To apply, you must have a valid South African CAA ATPL (H) with an unrestricted Class 1 medical certificate.

As a direct entry onto our Bell 412 fleet you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 3000 hours total flying time
  • 1500 hours command-time on multi-crew, multi-engine turbine helicopters over 5’400 Kgs
  • Currently type-rated as a commander on an Bell 412
  • Flown at least 100 hours command in Antarctica or the Arctic
  • ICAO English level 5 or above
  • 250 deck / ship landings

Applicant must have extensive deck-borne and non-containerised cargo slinging experience over a considerable distance, but not exceeding 235km /127nm. They need to be able to off-and back-load cargo from the fore/aft deck of the ship, exercise precision placing of the cargo in sometimes confined areas, and be able to land and take-off from a moving platform (ship).
