H.A.S. Pty Ltd •
Honiara, Guadalcanal Solomon Islands, International, International
Position Type: Permanent
Tropic Helicopters operates Hughes 500 C & D models engaged in fish spotting roles in the Western Pacific Ocean region. It is an Approved Maintenance Authority and has a maintenance and operations facility at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, with a satellite maintenance facility at Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. All aspects of maintenance are carried out, including airframe repair, avionics, engine shop, component overhaul and general servicing sections. The helicopters operate aboard deep sea fishing vessels operating in the Western Pacific Fisheries area. Each boat has a helicopter with a pilot and a mechanic with it on board.
Positions for pilots aboard the vessels become available at regular intervals. Seagoing aircrew are fully accommodated aboard the vessels.
Preferably 1000 hours total time, with suitable turbine time and experience on type. This is a target criteria, however each applicant is assessed individually. Previous fish spotting, maritime or overwater experience desirable but not essential. Industrial low level flying such as powerline inspections, feral animal control, fire fighting and similar activities are useful. Flying from a small helideck in a relatively unstable environment requires maturity, common sense and sound judgement. There is no room for adventure seekers, cowboys or yahoos in a serious industry. Industry familiarisation and indoctrination training is provided at a facility by a check/train pilot, prior to being appointed to a boat to be checked and mentored by an experienced pilot. After being signed off the pilot can then be appointed as PIC on his own boat .
All applicants should provide full details of their experience, and the current contact information of referees. Scanned copies of the data page of their passport, copies of visas, licences, medicals and other appropriate information such as industry training courses undertaken should be submitted. Pilots must provide clear scanned copy of the last three years of their log book, as well as all entries that relate to Hughes 500 time.
Applicants are invited to provide any additional supporting documentation that may assist in evaluating their application. Applicants must be able to work in a multi cultural environment as part of a team. Whilst English is the primary language, Philippines Tagalog and/ or Spanish language skills would be advantageous.
The company provides return air fares. Accommodation and victualling is provided aboard the boats.
Applications should be made, in confidence, to
