The CHC Standards Pilot will assist the Deputy Director CHC Standards with the development, implementation and maintenance of the flight operations and training standards programme; this programme is designed to ensure that the highest standards of flight proficiency and operational standards are maintained by all CHC pilots at any operating base and during (recurrent) training and checking.

The position is part of the Standards Pilot team and is accountable to the Deputy Director CHC Standards. The role will work in close collaboration with; Senior Manager Flight and Technical Training, Managers Flight Operations (MFOs) and Managers Crew Training (MCTs) of each AOC responsible for delivering safe flight operations to our customers. This specific role is also to assist in the CHC Standards oversight of SAR and EMS operations. :

Responsibilities:
<operational

  • Under the direction of the DD CHC Standards ensure the consistent application of company procedures and to gather objective data to provide timely feedback to Flight Standards on any areas of concern. This post has a focus on SAR and EMS operations. Audit training can be provided up to lead aviation auditor if required.
  • Auditing and assessing the proficiency and effectiveness of flight-crew (line) and flight crew training (sim) on each aircraft type with particular emphasis on flight safety and standardisation across all CHC operations (including those where CHC pilots are employed under alternate operational/ownership structures such as JV and partnership).
  • Auditing and monitoring CHC training programmes according to agreed plans and informing the appropriate Managers Crew Training of any problem areas with proposed action.
  • Carry out the functions of a Flight operational compliance assurance program including the creation of an effective Line Operations Safety Assessment (LOSA) program.
  • Assist regions with the running of LOSA projects at bases i.a.w. the annual CHC LOSA schedule and report i.a.w. ICAO Doc 9803
    Customer:
  • Inform and brief pilots and managers on the visited base regarding the LOSA program, it’s goals and the feedback to the pilots.
  • During base audits, the standard pilots should sample and document sufficient flights with various crew to make a proper assessment of operational compliance assurance.
  • During base audits, review the accuracy and revision status, paying particular attention to those flight and training documents and flight and training aids not subject to other auditing procedures. This should be well coordinated with other audit to prevent duplication.
    Operations:
  • Assessing base operations and making recommendations for any changes to the CHC Standards and AOC.
  • Auditing and monitoring the standards and standardisation of Training Captains by observing their conduct of routine flights.
    Leadership:
  • Play a key role in CHC’s ability to set the standard for safety, helping to maintain our position as world leader.
  • In collaboration with the CHC Standards team review the Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) results per base and will, during audits, advise the MFO and MCT of the specific AOC in possible causes for the events if appropriate and pending the effectiveness of the AOC’s Review Group meeting.
  • Make recommendations regarding the effectiveness of the compliance assurance program (including LOSA and FDM program) to the Deputy Director CHC Standards

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • Sufficient command of written and oral English
  • Basic knowledge of a recognized content management system
  • Team player
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Current S92 type rating would be preferable but other CHC SAR/EMS types will also be considered
  • Able to take direction while participating in a definitive, collaborative work environment
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain order and effectiveness in a complex and fast paced regulatory environment
