Job Summary

The Helicopter Pilot is able to fly light single or twin-engine airplanes or helicopters primarily under visual flight rules with responsibility for such operations as ferrying the aircraft or carrying freight from one point to another. The incumbent is also able to fly light single or twin-engine airplanes or helicopters under visual flight rules with responsibility for various kinds of photographic survey work.

Principle Accountabilities
Planning the route of flight
Securing the necessary clearance,
Navigating by reference to aeronautical charts, compass, and terrain features under visual flight conditions.
Typically involve operating to and from airfields that are fully adequate for the aircraft, point-to-point flying utilizing normal flight procedures, and operating primarily in the daytime under favorable weather conditions.
Perform other duties as requested

These are SCA jobs and will vary accordingly by assignment within and across contracts.

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is seasonal and has one opening for the operation of a demilitarized Bell 209 (Cobra AH-1) helicopter, located in Redding, CA. This position is a Call When Needed Position; however, the pilot must be available and willing to work overtime to provide maximum availability for fires. Must be willing to perform extensive travel during fire contract season and may be required to stay overnight in remote locations. Must be willing to meet a 10 day on 4 day off duty schedule, when required, with a start date 06/08/2018 and ending 10/07/2018 with possible extension.

The Pilot-In-Command (PIC) is responsible for the safety of the aircraft, loading and unloading of occupants and cargo. The pilot shall comply with the directions of the Government, except when in the pilot's judgment compliance will be a violation of applicable federal or state regulations or contract provisions. The pilot has final authority to determine whether the flight can be accomplished safely and shall refuse any flight or landing which is considered hazardous or unsafe.

The pilot is responsible for computing the weight and balance for all flights and for assuring that the gross weight and center of gravity do not exceed the aircraft's limitations.

Flight Plans. Pilots shall file, open, and operate on a FAA, ICAO, or a FS or DOI-Bureau approved flight plan for all non-mission flights.

Each PIC shall pass an agency flight evaluation conducted by a helicopter inspector Pilot with final endorsement by the Regional Aviation Officer. The flight evaluation will be in an aircraft supplied by the Government.

Pilots shall have accumulated as pilot-in-command (PIC) the minimum flight hours listed below. Flight hours shall be determined from a certified pilot log.

Preference will be considered for pilots that have Bell 209 (Cobra AH-1) experience. Consideration will be given to pilots that have Bell 205, 204 and UH-1 Experience.

Currency Requirements: Pilots are required to meet the requirements of FAR 61.57 para. (a)(1)(i) & (ii) which are 3 takeoffs and 3 landings within the preceding 90 days. This will be provided if not current

Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with appropriate rating (Rotorcraft-Helicopter) and a valid Class I or Class II FAA Medical Certificate

Pilots shall complete appropriate portions of the Helicopter Pilot Qualifications and Approval Record (Form FS-5700-20a or OAS-64) prior to evaluation. When approved, each pilot will be issued an Interagency Helicopter Pilot Qualification Card documenting make, model and series of aircraft approved to operate and the missions each pilot is approved to perform.

Assigned duty of any kind will not exceed 14-hours in any 24-hour period. Within any 24-hour period, pilots shall have a minimum of 10-consecutive hours off duty immediately prior to the beginning of any duty-day.

Note1. PIC mountainous terrain experience is defined as 200 hours experience operating helicopters in mountainous terrain identified in 14 CFR 95 Subpart B-Designated Mountainous Area. Operating includes maneuvering and numerous takeoffs and landings to ridgelines, pinnacles and confined areas.
