IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Hillsborough County’s Mosquito Management Services is seeking a Helicopter Pilot to perform duties operating a rotary-wing aircraft to support the aerial application of insecticides.  Ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge operating a helicopter and conducting daily inspections and performing minor maintenance.   The ideal candidate will have will have the ability to work alongside busy roadways, in swamplands, in brushy areas performing manual labor in outside environment, exposed to heat, sun, high humidity, rain and other adverse weather conditions to perform domestic inspections when and ground operations when not performing air missions. Knowledge of the control of mosquitos and undesirable arthropods is preferred.  Candidate will be required to obtain a Public Health Spray License and an Aquatic Spray License within six months of being hired.

JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties operating a rotary-wing aircraft to support the aerial application of insecticides.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a high school or possession of a GED Certificate.

An FAA Commercial Pilot License with a rotorcraft-helicopter rating; and

A minimum of 500 hours of turbine engine helicopter flying time of which 200 hours must be night flight time; and

Experience in low level, nap of the earth, or agricultural spraying or dusting flight time as first pilot.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

A current FAA Flight Medical Certificate (Class II) with no waivers.

•          Skill in operating computer based aircraft systems.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

•          Operates rotarywing aircraft in support of the aerial application of insecticides.

•          Maintains technical proficiency and ensures compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements related to instrument flight rules, congested area flights, and low altitude flying.

•          Maintains flight log and record of activities.

•          Performs daily inspection of aircraft; conducts required flight inspections, fuel servicing, weather and flight clearances to ensure aircraft readiness and safety.

•          Maintains aircraft maintenance records and schedules inspections, maintenance, and repairs as needed and in compliance with regulations.

•          Calibrates aerial and ground spray applications systems to maintain proper and safe operation.

•          When not performing air operations may operate airboat and work in conjunction with ground inspectors to coordinate inspections of difficult areas to access.

•          When not performing air operations may be included in ground operation missions to operate a ULV spray truck.

•          Functions as the unit safety officer, preparing and conducting safety meetings with the unit.

•          Makes public presentations as required.

•          Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and walking for long distances, standing for extensive periods of time, lifting up to 35lbs.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Possession of a current State of Florida Certificate to use restricted pesticides issued under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act; and proficiency in low altitude pesticide applications, within the probationary period.
