Rescue Helicopter Aircrew – Western Australia

[Three positions are available. Grade 1 – Casual, Grades 2 & 3 – Seasonal. ]

Surf Life Saving Western Australia (SLSWA) is an independent not-for-profit community service organisation, with a core purpose of saving lives and building great communities’.

To ensure SLSWA delivers on its core purpose, the organisation delivers contracted or volunteer services enabled by the Lifesaving department.  Consistent delivery of these services, seven days per week, across the state is key to our success. As a result, the Lifesaving department is focused on achieving integration across the organisation and down to the front line (on beach).

Surveillance is the cornerstone of what we do. SLSWA’s regional aerial surveillance capability plays a crucial role in coastal safety and identifying emergencies. This includes locating on-beach hazards and identifying threats from marine life as well as responding to and supporting maritime search and rescue activities.

SLSWA has multiple opportunities for experienced individuals to join the Aerial Surveillance team within the Lifesaving department, specifically the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter team, on a fixed seasonal or casual basis as Air Crew. Vacancies exist in three Air Crew levels as outlined below. These roles are based out of either Rous Head, North Fremantle or Busselton Regional Airport in line with a shift-based roster.

Reporting to the Aerial Surveillance Officer, you will have the opportunity to use your excellent communication, operational and administration skills to further the aims of the SLSWA surveillance service.

The Air Crew Grade 1 (Casual) will perform an essential role in the operation being surveillance capable, providing support to Air Crew Grade 2 when required and possess the following;

  • Previous experience in helicopter operations
  • Experience in Search and Rescue operations
  • Experience in delivery of emergency care
  • Knowledge of Australian Civil Aviation Regulations and Orders
  • Critical incident management experience

The Air Crew Grade 2 (Seasonal/ Casual) will perform an essential role in the operation being diver drop capable and provide oversight of Air Crew Grade 1 and possess the following;

  • All points as per Air Crew Grade 1 noted above
  • Minimum 2 years experience in helicopter operations

The Air Crew Grade 3 (Seasonal) will perform an essential role in the operation providing, training and assessment and oversight of Air Crew Grade 2 and Air Crew Grade 1, and possess the following;

  • All points as per Air Crew Grade 1 noted above
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in helicopter operations with strong training, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Hold a Cert IV in training and Assessment (or equivalent)
