Job Description:
This specialty rotor-wing pilot position is an advanced, SPIFR role providing a combination of traditional EMS flight operations with search and rescue services, as part of the REACH Air Medical Services Multi-Mission Operations Division.
The REACH Multi-Mission Pilot provides customer oriented, high quality air medical transport services in a safe and efficient manner. The pilot is expected to act as a proactive and integral team player both in flight and during ground operations, utilizing communication and technical skills which will strengthen the company goal of being held in highest regard within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) industry.
Additionally, in a unique public/private partnership, the REACH Multi-Mission Pilot must exhibit superlative CRM skills with Flight Team members during SAR operations and work seamlessly with other EMS entities demonstrating professional, inter-agency collaboration and cooperation. This pilot will be qualified in the Airbus H145, a rotor-wing platform especially equipped to accomplish HAA flights, search and rescue hoist operations and aerial firefighting support.

Job Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Multi-Mission Pilot)
Maintains a schedule as set forth by the company. Ensures aircraft readiness for flight dispatches, these items to include, as described in the appropriate manuals, but not limited to:
All FAR requirements

  • Aircraft cleanliness duties
  • All REACH requirements
  • All Flight Team requirement
    • Accurately completes, in entirety, all required paperwork duties, i.e., duty shift change form, load manifests, duty/time sheets, all within scheduled due dates.
    • Continues in educational betterment, e.g., computer training, ground training and flight training.
    • Ensures that any and all pertinent information about flight operations will be disseminated to their shift change pilot and/or disseminated through the Company Communications Board per policy.
    • Conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times.
    • Attends meetings when required, and is available for training and check-flights outside of normal duty shift rotation.
    • Upholds current company policies and procedures.
    • Performs other duties during scheduled shift as requested by Director of Operations or Chief Pilot.
    • Maintains safety as the primary concern.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Advanced)
The REACH Multi-Mission Pilot will also be responsible for advanced, multi-mission, day/night, and adverse weather precision flight profiles, including but not limited to:

  • EMS scene calls and inter-facility transports
  • Search and Rescue operations
  • Aerial firefighting services
  • Rescue Hoist operations
  • Coordinated Emergency Services Response, FEMA Activations
  • Local, State and Federal Interagency support operations

Qualifications

  • 3000 hours total time (helicopter)
  • 1500 hours PIC (helicopter)
  • 1500 hours turbine
  • 500 hours of cumulative night experience
  • 200 hours of cumulative IFR experience (IFR & IFR Reserve Position)
  • FAA Commercial Rotorcraft Certification
  • Helicopter Instrument Rating
  • Current FAA Class II Medical Certificate(Preferred but not required)
  • Single Pilot IFR experience
  • NVG Experience
  • EC-135/145 experience
  • FAR 135 Experience
  • Previous HAA experience
  • ATP (H) Rating
  • Flight Currency within past 12 months

Experience in the following is preferred, but not required;

  • Helicopter hoist/technical rescue experience
  • Meeting emergencies, rapid problem-solving, and sound decision-making in the field with changing conditions
  • Building consensus and teamwork under stressful conditions
  • Planning and organizing work assignments
  • Extreme confined space/precision flight operations
  • Long line/belly hook experience
  • Aerial Firefighting (spotter)Aerial Firefighting (Bambi bucket)
  • Heavy-lift, logging or utility experience
  • Low to high angle and swift water rescue techniques

  • Maintains a positive team attitude and cohesive working relationship with nurses, paramedics, pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, communication specialists and all other supporting departments
  • Maintains proficiency and exercises best practices regarding relevant aviation SOPs, protocols and policies.
  • Stays current on local EMS Agency and/or county protocols and requirements
  • Maintains proficiency and evaluates risk/benefit of helicopter and ground rescue operations
  • Directs, educates and coordinates colleagues on medical calls and trauma scenes to achieve maximum effectiveness
  • Works collaboratively with other public service/public safety entities in a variety of inter-agency operations
  • Maintains currency in all required trainings and certifications

Physical Requirements (Standard)

  • Performs activities requiring a moderate amount of standing, sitting, and walking
  • Able to conduct activities requiring a moderate to rigorous amount of static pushing, pulling, reaching and lifting (knuckle height and ankle height)
  • Capable of lifting 75lbs. floor to bench height
  • Capable of safe and expedient ingress/egress to and from aircraft or emergency vehicles in undeveloped landing zones or unrefined, uneven ground
  • Ability to hear routine aircraft and medical equipment noises
  • Maintains a “duty” weight (body weight + uniform/equipment – helmet not included) of less than 220lbs (weigh-ins every quarter) for Multi-Mission Rotor Wing (Helicopter) operations
  • Must be able to wear a commercially available respirator mask with proper fit, when required
  • Requires close and distant visual capability
  • Periodic hands to key ability (typing)
  • Ability to work within a 24-hour job environment

Physical Requirements (Advanced)
Ability to mentally focus for extended periods of time under stress. Able to maintain precision control of aircraft and hoist litter in variable flight conditions. Capable of concise radio communication and crew feedback, accepting multiple, rapid, blind-flight commands from hoist operator crew members.
