JOB TITLE: Helicopter Ground/Simulator Instructor

BASIC FUNCTION: The Ground/Simulator Instructor – Rotorcraft-Helicopter is responsible for the accomplishment of rotorcraft-helicopter pilot ground/simulator school training conducted for Customers receiving Initial, Recurrent or generic training courses and measures the training progress of Customer(s), objectively and subjectively, within the established curriculum, by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned.

Teammates based at Learning Centers in the U.S. may be required to perform duties as

contract instructors or check airmen which are considered “safety-sensitive” under 14 CFR Parts 121 and/or 135. Those hired into or transferred to safety-sensitive duties will be required to undergo a U.S. Department of Transportation-compliant Pre-employment Drug Screening; and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing as long as they are assigned safety-sensitive duties.

FlightSafety Learning Centers provide training and support to Customer and Clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Learning Center instructors may be scheduled at varying times and days to support the Customer needs.

Training Standards – Program Activities: (Includes Compliance with regulations and guidelines, and Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures; plus Lesson Planning, Current Material and Set-up):

Maintain Instructor qualification in accordance with FlightSafety International’s Quality Maintenance Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.

Maintain Instructor qualification in accordance with NOTE on the last page of this Job Description.

Keep current all certificates, ratings and designations, required to perform duties as aFlight or Simulator Instructor. NOTE: Each Ground Instructor (Rotorcraft-Helicopter) is responsible for maintaining currency and for providing copies of all required licenses, documents, and renewals to the Director of Standards (DOS).

Maintain FlightSafety International established standards of instructional delivery with corresponding levels of subject knowledge.

Develop, utilize, maintain and revise ground school lesson plans for publications in accordance with FlightSafety International standards.

Assist in completing and revising ground school syllabi and expanded Instructor Action Guides (IAGs).

Deliver training to FlightSafety International clients in accordance with FlightSafety International Instructor Performance Standards:

Training Standards – Instructor Activities: (Includes Compliance with regulations and guidelines, and QMS policies and procedures)

Maintain all ground/simulator training material (various media forms) in a current state at all times.

Provide pre-briefings and post-briefings before and after each Simulator lesson in accordance with FlightSafety International Instructor Performance Standards.

Prepare classroom and/or Flight Simulator and set up training materials no later than 15 minutes prior to schedule class start time, Flight Simulator and/or pre-briefing session.

Integrate Crew Resource Management (CRM)/Human Factors training with technical (procedural) training.

Utilize Customer’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Checklists, and Minimum Equipment List (MEL) during training, when requested or required.

Attend scheduled Instructor meetings.

Assist in keeping all publications used in Simulator training current.

Ensure classrooms, flight training devices (FTDs) and scheduled simulators are ready for client training events.

NOTE: Act as Second-in-Command for clients training in multi-crew aircraft who have come to training without a flying partner. In that capacity, will serve as a competent

Second-in-Command and will not be performing instructional duties.

Documentation/Reports Activities:

Perform administrative duties relative to training such as preparing for the delivery of training, record keeping, monitoring Customer progress, training development and maintenance of training programs.

Report to the Director of Training (DOT) any Customer training problems (poor performance, Customer/Instructor conflicts, excessive tardiness, etc.).

Interact with Simulator Mx technicians concerning all Simulator functions and malfunctions as well as ensure all malfunctions are documented properly using appropriate forms.

Participate in the Quality Management System (QMS) activities at assigned site and adhere to the processes related to accomplishing the site’s QMS goals.

Participate in Learning Center Safety Management Systems (SMS) activities including supporting and promoting the safety culture, reporting all aviation safety-related issues via the feedback system, and adhering to the processes related to accomplishing SMS goals.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prioritize workflow on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Attend, facilitate and/or research training to increase skills applicable to job position and workplace issues.

Travel in conjunction with assigned duties, if required.

Other duties may be assigned by the Center Manager.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (Minimum Requirements)

Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school preferred, or three (3) years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; equivalency years experience substitution must be in related field.

Minimum of six (6) months’ experience in a teaching/training environment, especially where the material is designed for adult (over 18 years old) participants, preferred.

Minimum of 100 hours documented “night vision goggles” experience, preferred.

Prior to hiring, the applicant for Flight Instructor (Simulator)/Synthetic Device

Instructor must have the following certificates in his/her possession prior to the start of a simulator assignment.

The following are preferred experience in specific rotorcraft-helicopter lines due to the equipment training being offered by the designated Learning Center:

Tucson, AZ : Eurocopter AS-350

Fort Worth, TX or Lafayette, LA Bell (any models) and/or Eurocopter EC 135

West Palm Beach or Lafayette, LA Sikorsky (any models)

The following are preferred experience in specific rotorcraft-helicopter environments:

Off-shore drilling rig pick-ups and deliveries

Emergency Medical (EMS) pick-ups and deliveries

Corporate Part 91 and Part 135 or 121 or foreign equivalent operations

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:

If instructing in a rotorcraft-helicopter requiring a type-rating or in a rotorcraft helicopter course leading to the issuance of an ATP certificate:

Flight Instructor certificate (CFI) rotorcraft-helicopter

ATP certificate – rotorcraft-helicopter

2,000 hours Pilot-in-Command, 1,000 hours in rotorcraft-helicopter, and 250 hours as a Flight Instructor

If instructing in a rotorcraft-helicopter not requiring a type-rating, or in a rotorcraft helicopter course not leading to the issuance of an ATP certificate:

Flight Instructor certificate (CFI) rotorcraft-helicopter

Commercial Pilot certificate – rotorcraft-helicopter, with an instrument rating

1,000 hours Pilot-in-Command, 500 hours in rotorcraft-helicopter, and 250 hours as a Flight Instructor

NOTE: An Instructor may be employed without the required certificates or ratings, but these must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

a) In-Processing and Orientation, as documented in the Instructor Training File (ITF)

b) General and Administrative Training

c) Aircraft-Specific Ground and Simulator Training

d) Instructional Devices Training

e) Professional Instructor Course (PIC) (see QWI 62-02-01;02)

f) Simulator Observation Training

g) Practice instruction

h) Supervised Instruction

i) Instructor Certification/Designation

j) Flight/Simulator Instructor Evaluation

Valid Driver’s License, where applicable.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; able to speak, understand, read and write

3. Enter and exit from the Simulator device via the provided ramp.

4. With relative ease and quickness move between the Instructor station, projector screen and podium while instructing in the classroom.

5. Exit from malfunctioned Simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The teammate must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the teammate frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The teammate occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
