Role Summary

Chief Technical Crewman and Standards Officer -APAC

CHC is looking to appoint the position of Chief Technical Crewman and Standard Officer APAC based in our Head Office in West Perth, Western Australia.  Reporting locally to the Manager Flight Operations, you will work in collaboration with the Australian Senior Leadership team in ensuring operational and training matters in relation to Technical Crew, including the ongoing assessment of both current and proposed operational matters are met.

As the nominated person for the Australian AOC, you will ensure that all CHC technical crew operations and standards meet the safety and service delivery standards expected by regulators and internal and external customers. The role will maintain a high standard of operational excellence, with a focus on promoting a Just Culture that supports a continuous process of improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the maintenance of Technical Crew operational flying standards and training records are in accordance with current CASA regulations, operations manual and base operating procedures
  • Ensure the ongoing development and maintenance of the Technical Crew training syllabi
  • Conduct proficiency checks, tests and issue of certificates of competence as required under the CAOs, CARs and company procedures
  • Coordinate the Touring Check and Training roster inclusive of leave requirements
  • Oversee the development, training and qualifications of Technical Crew Check and Training staff
  • Liaise with internal and external resources on Technical Crew training
  • Liaise with internal company departments regarding Technical Crew tender preparation
  • Manage all matters pertaining to SAR/EMS operations, training and aircraft role equipment specifications
  • Liaise with internal departments and Human Resources with Technical Crew Resourcing and Employment Relation issues
  • Fill line positions as directed on a needs basis
  • Instruct initial and recurrent training for Line and Check and Training staff
  • In conjunction with the Manager Flight Operations/Chief Pilot determine career development for Technical Crew
  • Develop highly effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders whether they are internal (at a global, regional and in country level and particularly with the regional management team) and externally (regulators, employee groups and trade unions)
  • Champion cohesive change and is a visible leader of all global and regional initiatives in relation to Safety, business KPI’s, people, finance and a relentless advocate of integrity at all levels
  • Travel overseas and interstate may be required

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified Aircrewman with EMS/SAR experience
  • Training Qualification and qualified trainer is essential
  • Must hold CASA instrument of approvals for CAO20:11 and CAO 29:11 Training and Proficiency Testing
  • Post graduate qualifications in Management or demonstrable recent management experience is required
  • Effective leadership with the ability to mentor and drive team performance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent customer engagement management skills
  • Demonstrable experience with operational processes to support business objectives
  • Knowledge and/or experience in safety, quality assurance and risk management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple demands, in a high volume, rapidly changing environment.
