Purpose of Position

The Director of Program Training – Rotor Wing is responsible for ensuring the successful operation and management of Rotor Wing Defense programs. The Director will be responsible for the execution, development and management of all rotor wing training.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensures overall Program performance meets both contractual requirements and customer needs. Drives cost, quality and schedule across the Defense enterprise.
  • Managing a team of program managers that provide key support roles supporting in a matrixed organization.
  • Establishes FlightSafety Defense corporate resource requirements and evaluates performance against plans and milestones.
  • Ensures accomplishment of contractually required events, achievements and milestones to assure training program tasks and responsibilities are being effectively carried out by the production and training program teams.
  • Ensures effective management and supervision of Program Managers to assure that all elements perform to contract specifications, costs and schedules.
  • Effectively and efficiently manages projects, programs and processes to ensure that the highest standards and service level requirements are delivered.
  • Maintains an operational awareness of all significant activities of the Defense programs via formal and informal customer and teammate contacts at all levels.
  • Establishes and monitors sufficient procedures and controls throughout assigned training and production programs to prudently manage and ensure compliance with customer requirements, company policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares, gains approval, and executes the annual program management budget, as well as necessary revisions and adjustments.
  • Ensures that personnel performance and compensation plans are properly administered throughout all programs.
  • Oversees individual program succession plans, manages planned and scheduled training and development opportunities for teammates with potential to serve in assignments of greater responsibilities.
  • Travel as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Education

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree; Advanced or Graduate Degree strongly preferred; or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training, in addition to what is listed below.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience; 30 years experienced preferred; demonstrated track record of strong Program Management experience, planning, directing, and controlling the implementation of Defense-related programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Training and Production Programs with a deep understanding and demonstrated expertise in Earned Value Management. Demonstrated ability to develop and foster strong relationship with OEM customers, DoD Customers, partners, and suppliers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. Current, active clearance preferred.
  • Rotary wing qualified Army aviator with minimum 2000 hours in multiple vertical lift/rotary wing aircraft including combat flight time.

  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and/or pivot tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to interact professionally with various levels of management in a matrixed environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and high-pressure situations
  • Knowledge of management principles and their applications
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines and provide status updates, including course redirection, along the way
  • Demonstrated agent of change, and skilled at balancing functional/departmental initiatives in tandem with organizational objectives
  • Solid knowledge of military standards and specification practices
  • Fundamental understanding of earned value management system principles, procedures and practices
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite or related software, in particular Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project
  • Experience in training leadership positions
  • Experience in writing training doctrine and strategy
  • Experience in POI development for all major aircraft and aircrew training programs of instruction (POI)
  • Experience as Director of the Directorate of Evaluation and Standardization
  • Experience in leading large functional staffs
  • Experience with large UAV, UAS training in the Army. (Shadow, Gray Eagle, and Hunter)
  • Experience in joint training operations to include multi-national
  • Experience working with helicopter OEMs
  • Program Management experience on rotor wing program
