Summary of Duties

The Director of Maintenance (DOM) position is a key management role at Lohman Helicopter. This position reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for leading the aviation maintenance operations, managing all related personnel, and meeting or exceeding applicable regulatory requirements. This position will also work to continuously improve company operations and help effectively manage direct maintenance costs (DMC).

Director of Maintenance Duties

  • Manage and supervise the performance of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to include required aircraft inspections, component changes, and preventative maintenance
  • Ensure maintenance technicians are certified, trained, supervised, and current on the types of aircraft for which Lohman Helicopter operates
  • Ensure that aircraft, facilities, ground support equipment, and work areas are maintained to company and industry standards
  • Ensure aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition and that inspections, repairs, and component changes are accomplished in accordance with manufacturers or FAA approved procedures
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance procedures, ADs, SBs, SLs, and applicable FARs
  • Maintain all necessary work records and logbooks, including certification in the aircraft permanent maintenance records
  • Provide the Director of Operations with the current airworthiness status of the aircraft and the forecast downtimes to facilitate maintenance scheduling to meet contractual requirements
  • Develop a close liaison with manufacturer representatives, parts supply houses, repair facilities, and the FAA
  • Coordinate with maintenance contracting agencies for maintenance activities on company aircraft
  • Maintain MEL in accordance with MEL policies and procedures
  • Work closely with all customers to ensure that the aircraft are ready for inspection
  • Ensure aircraft recordkeeping and maintenance programs are current and up to date with all original historical records. All aircraft records must be kept current digitally in the company FlightDocs program and hard copy in the aircraft and filed as required by the GOM
  • Must be proficient with computers, Excel and Word programs, use of Aircraft Tech Pubs, and interpreting FAA ADs, regulations, and information applicability
  • Advocate safety, while being budget conscious and solution-oriented, with an ability and desire to take initiative to resolve all maintenance and management issues presented during day-to-day operations

Job Requirements:

Qualifications/Licenses

  • Valid and current FAA Airframe and Powerplant License
  • Inspection Authorization (IA)
  • Must have previous documented CFR Part 135 and/or management experience to meet FAA CFR 119.71 Director of Maintenance requirements
  • Previous experience with approving returning aircraft to service
  • Bell 407 and Bell 212 aircraft maintenance experience
  • 3 years of the last 6 working on helicopters at a 135 operation or a 145-repair station
  • Must pass a DOT drug test
  • Ability to conduct activities requiring lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of burdens, up to 50 pounds
  • Class C CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements and DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Manufacturer’s training or equivalent on Bell 407 and/or Bell 212 (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Maintenance or related field (preferred)
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Lewiston, Idaho area

Schedule: Central office in Lewiston, Idaho, or satellite base in Ramona, California, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Director of Maintenance will be required to work varied shifts for utility and powerline work, forest fire contracts, and other contracts assigned throughout the United States, Canada, and other selected sites.
