Job Summary:

The Chief Theoretical Knowledge Instructor (CTKI) is a ground-based position, predominantly teaching students for the CPL or ATPL (Helicopter) theoretical knowledge examinations with a responsibility for day to day oversight of TK courses and ATO exam performance. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for teaching as well as attention to detail when it comes to maintaining high standards, to have ownership of development of the ATO’s theoretical knowledge resource and standardisation of instructors.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Teaching ATPL(H)/IR Theoretical Knowledge classes, specialising in at least three of the following subjects (Meteorology, Instrumentation, General Navigation, Human Performance and Limitations, Radio Navigation, Airframe and Systems, Electrics, Power Plant and Emergency Equipment, Air Law, Flight, Planning and Flight Monitoring, Communications (VFR and IFR), Operational Procedures, Principles of Flight (Helicopter), Performance (Helicopter), Mass and Balance)
  • Co-ordination of TKIs for PPL, CPL and ATPL theoretical knowledge instruction
  • Development of training resources
  • Supervision and standardisation of TKIs
  • Planning course structure to integrate with flying program
  • Monitoring student exam results
  • Student liaison and pastoral care related to theoretical training
  • Working with the Head of Training on upkeep of the ATO manual
  • Attendance of CAA CTKI meetings and external activities relating to the role
