We are seeking additional full-time or contract Helicopter Flight Instructors to join our team at Leicester and Oxford. The primary role will be to deliver instruction for one or more of the following :

  • Private Pilot Licence
  • Commercial Pilot Licence (integrated and modular)
  • Type Rating Courses (Cabri G2 and Robinson R44)

Helicentre Aviation is the leading UK provider of ab-initio to professional helicopter pilot training, selected by offshore operator Bristow to train cadets for direct entry to Offshore and Search and Rescue first-officer  positions.  We offer exciting career development opportunities to our Flight Instructors, with typical fast progression into other industry roles or possible promotion and sponsorship into other fields within the business, including future multi-crew opportunities.

We require applicants for positions within the ATO (Approved Training Organisation) to demonstrate a range of positive behaviours and attitudes, as well as a high level of knowledge and skill. Our selection process is designed to identify these qualities and assess applicants against the required competencies.

We are seeking applicants who can work full-time or part-time, either on a contracted or salaried basis according to circumstance, suitability, and experience. Candidates who are appropriately qualified and suitably experienced may be offered fast progression into a position that encompasses a variety of additional duties including CAT (Commercial Air Transport) and SPO (Specialised Operations), if desired.

Newly qualified Flight Instructors will be guided through their supervisory restriction period and provided with standardisation training and support to allow rapid progression onto positions with greater responsibility. Standardisation training for delivery of CPL courses will be provided to suitable applicants who do not yet have the necessary experience in this field.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must hold a UK CPL(H) or ATPL(H) and a Flight Instructor (Helicopter) Certificate with Part FCL.905.FI (a) and (b) privileges. Any of the following FCL.905.FI privileges would be advantageous: (e), (f), (h), (i) and (j). As a minimum, applicants should have experience in delivering training for the PPL(H) course in the United Kingdom. Standardisation training will be provided to suitable candidates.

Applicants who have been standardised to instruct for the issue of a CPL(H) at another UK ATO, or who hold an FE(H) Certificate will be considered for a more senior role, and company standardisation training will be provided.

Newly qualified FI’s who have minimal or no experience and who did not obtain their FI(H) Certificate at Helicentre Aviation’s ATO are welcome to apply FI(H) – standardisation will be provided on successful completion of an interview / competency-based assessment.

All applicants must hold a Cabri G2 type rating or be prepared to obtain a Cabri G2 rating and the required hours to provide instruction on the type. R44 and AW109 type ratings would be advantageous.

Are you a CPL(H) holder without an FI(H)?
Pilots who hold a CPL(H) but are not yet qualified as Flight Instructors may apply for one of our 2023/2024 Flight Instructor courses. A conditional offer of employment will be made pending a successful interview and subsequent completion of the course. Sponsorship may be offered to the right applicant subject to a training bond. If interested, please apply for this vacancy stating in your availability in the covering letter.

The ATO’s annual flight training hours are in the region of 8,000 (this excludes CAT and Utility operations). Typically we recruit a significant number of entry-level instructors each year to replace those moving up into other roles within the company or progressing onto other sectors of the industry.

About the FI(H) Role
The FI(H) role, whilst predominantly delivering private and professional flight training, can include other forms of ground and flight instruction and/or other commercial and non-commercial operations according to experience, qualifications and company requirements. This will range from check flights to refresher training for existing licence holders, supervising hour building trips within the UK and Europe.

Flight Instructors typically progress onto more advanced flying roles within the company in a relatively short timescale, and there may also be long-term opportunities within the training environment such as being promoted to be a CAA Form 4 nominated person or being sponsored through additional ratings and qualifications such as FIC(H), FE(H) or TRE(H), or subject to qualifications and experience, undertaking UK-based CAT or SPO work.
