Job Description:

Pilots fly missions and aircraft which vary with the department to which the position is assigned. Pilots must maintain current certification to fly agency aircraft which may include jets, turboprop single- and/or multi-engine airplanes, rotorcraft helicopter or other equipment owned or leased by the agency.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. NDF’s pilots fly UH-1H helicopters to meet the States, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR’s), and/or Federal partners needs for Fire Control and Resource Management.

  • Pilots must conduct fire reconnaissance missions, fire suppression flights and/or HELITACK flights including reporting fires
  • evaluating fire conditions
  • ordering ground crews and equipment and coordinating air attacks pending arrival of an incident commander
  • monitoring and reporting fire conditions
  • assisting the incident commander in directing air operations, and transporting personnel, cargo and equipment to various locations within and outside the State.
  • Applicants must be flexible in work schedules in regard to flex days and hours to meet mission requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school, or equivalent education
  • 3,500 hours logged for Pilot III, or 2,500 hours logged for Pilot II, pilot-in-command total rotorcraft flight time, as designated by the agency at the time of recruitment.
  • Flight experience must include 250 hours low-level flight; 250 hours conducting external load operations; 500 hours mountain flying above 5,000 feet mean sea level; and 100 hours of flight time within the preceding 12 months.
  • A valid second-class medical certificate issued by an authorized FAA medical examiner is required.
  • A valid commercial pilot certificate with rotorcraft helicopter rating including instrument rating or fix-wing multi-engine and/or single-engine land rating, including instrument rating issued by the FAA is required.
  • Pursuant to NRS [Phone number removed. See source link below. /Admin], this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50 hours in a Bell UH-1H or Bell 204/205/210/212.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain an interagency cooperator wildland firefighting certification from U.S. Forest Service or OAS (Office of Aircraft Services) at time of appointment.
